Zo Burton may be making his debut this fall, but he isn’t new to music.

An Arkansas native now based in Brooklyn, Zo is a singer-songwriter, producer and musician whose story began as a preacher’s kid. He started playing keys by ear at three years old, an early sign of the perfect pitch he would later discover he had. Church became his first classroom, shaping his approach to music long before he ever thought of himself as an artist.

Music extended beyond the church in Zo’s family. He grew up around music lovers, with a few musicians in between, exposed to everything from gospel and blues to funk and hip-hop before eventually finding a home in R&B. This gave him the freedom to pull from different eras, genres and styles without feeling limited by any of them. That range has given Zo a musical language of his own.

His sound is grounded in melody, rich vocal harmony and conversational songwriting, with Zo moving naturally between classic R&B and modern production. And he’s only beginning to show just how much those worlds can collide.

For years, he kept his own music close — writing, recording and living enough life for the songs to finally sound like the person making them.

Now, he’s ready for the world to meet Zo Burton.
